(English) Visa procedures at Vietnam airport

After applying for Vietnam visa on arrival online by filling out one online visa application form and getting payment online, you will have to go through visa procedures at Vietnam airport of getting visa stamped and then legally enter Vietnam.

Upon arrival at the Vietnam airport, you need to present your approval letter to the Immigration officer. See how to get the Vietnam visa approval letter here.

You should remember that there are 5 things packed in your arrival document checklist below:

1.      Your passport(at least 6 month validity)

2.      2 passport-sized photos

3.      Visa approval letter

4.      A copy of entry and exit form(download from website or available at airports)

5.      Cash (preferred USD or VND currencies)

Get your boarding pass with a valid passport and Vietnam visa

After landing, at Hanoi airport, you just head straight to Customs Clearance area, Immigration Office is right next to the Customs and before Baggage Claims. At Ho Chi Minh airport, you also head straight to Immigration Area. After that, you have to submit 5 required documents above.

Keep in mind that once you leave the country, you need a passport of at least 6 month validity. This rule is applied for  all international travel, including  the US and Canada but excluding EU member countries. If you are coming toVietnam you need to have both a valid passport and a valid Vietnam visa.

At the airport, you will asked for your passport and visa at the time of check-in, no matter why you fly from. Vietnam visa can either be a ready visa stamp into  your passport if getting visa at Vietnam Embassy or a signed visa approval letter of applying for Vietnam visa on arrival.

Then, you will be given a boarding pass to fly to Vietnam. When you arrive in one of the international airports, you will see 2 bright signs besides the Customs area, visa-on-arrival or landing visa.

If you already possess a visa stamped when you get the Vietnam visa at Vietnam embassy, you just head straight to the Custom area, hand in your passport for checking and proceed to the baggage area.

With regard to visa on arrival to Vietnam, you have to present the documents above and receive the visa stamp. To receive your stamped visa, you will pay $25USD for single entry visa and $50USD for multiple entry visa as the stamping fee to Immigration Department. You are recommended to pay in USD or VND dong currencies to speed up the visa process at the Vietnam international airports.

After getting visa stamped onto the passport, collect your luggage and pass through the Customs.

Please note that the visa procedures at the airport takes normally 15-20 minutes, depending on the time and day you arrive.
